As we gear up for our second hangar flyout this Saturday, our instructor team dedicated this past weekend to laying the groundwork for our ground courses. Our focus is on creating a robust framework that ensures our students receive top-notch training in line with FAA standards.
Course Development Priorities
Our team is prioritizing the development of Private Pilot (PVT) and Instrument Rating (IR) courses, with Commercial Pilot (COM) to follow. Each course will align with the aeronautical knowledge requirements outlined in the FAA regulations:
PVT: Covering 14 CFR 61.105
IR: Covering 14 CFR 61.65(b)
COM: Covering 14 CFR 61.125
These courses will serve as the foundation for the aeronautical knowledge endorsements students will earn upon completion. To enhance the learning experience, we’ll incorporate additional material from key resources like the Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge (PHAK), Airman Certification Standards (ACS), Instrument Flying Handbook, and a verity of other great aviation material.
Course Material Design
The content for these courses will strike a balance between a detailed lesson plan and a Training Course Outline (TCO). Each subject area will be broken down into specific emphasis items that are critical for student understanding. However, the outlines will remain flexible enough to be used by multiple instructors, ensuring consistency while allowing for individual teaching styles.
Next Steps
Once we finalize the subject material, we’ll move on to designing the timeline for each course. This will help us create a structured yet adaptable schedule to meet our students’ needs.
Goals and Timeline
Private Pilot (PVT) Course: Complete by the end of September
Instrument Rating (IR) Course: Complete by the end of November
Classes Offered: Begin January 1
We’re excited about the progress we’re making and look forward to delivering high-quality ground training to our students. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to build these courses!
