CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
An evolving curriculum built on real-world feedback
WHAT IS THE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM?
At The Pilots Collective, our curriculum is always evolving. We don’t rely on static lesson plans—we actively build our training around real-world feedback, changing industry standards, and insights from instructors, airline pilots, mechanics, and aircraft owners. Every lesson is designed with purpose: to stay relevant, practical, and focused on making pilots not just checkride-ready, but truly prepared. Through regular instructor meetings and student input, we ensure that new and important training points are continuously integrated into our program.
HOW FEEDBACK IS GATHERED
To keep our curriculum responsive, real-world focused, and community-driven, we gather feedback from anyone involved in or impacted by our training—students, instructors, aircraft owners, industry professionals, and members of the public.
-
Open Feedback Forms: Anyone can share suggestions, concerns, or ideas using the forms linked on this page. These are open to all and can be submitted anonymously if preferred. Your voice helps us build better training for everyone.
-
Instructor Collaboration: Instructors meet regularly to discuss student progress, training challenges, and proposed changes to the curriculum, drawing from both personal experience and submitted feedback.
-
Ongoing Student and Community Input: We encourage feedback throughout training and during group events, post-lesson debriefs, and community gatherings.
-
Industry and Owner Insight: We welcome and incorporate the perspectives of DPEs, mechanics, aircraft owners, and airline pilots to ensure the curriculum reflects current standards and operational expectations.
-
Data-Driven Adjustments: We regularly review student performance trends, checkride outcomes, and instructor reports to identify areas for improvement.
Do you have some feedback for us?
WHO CAN SUBMIT FEEDBACK
Anyone—students, instructors, aircraft owners, aviation professionals, or members of the public—can submit feedback. We believe every perspective adds value and helps us create a more complete and effective curriculum. To avoid duplicate suggestions or questions we’ve already addressed, we review each submission and compare it to existing curriculum topics, instructor meeting notes, and ongoing initiatives. If the idea has already been covered, we’ll use the feedback to reinforce its importance or improve how it’s being taught. If it’s new, we’ll explore how to integrate it. Either way, your voice helps shape continuous improvement.
Currently, we’re working on building our base curriculum, but you can view the lessons we’ve developed so far on this page and on our Training Enrichment page. The enrichment lessons are designed to be interwoven with our core curriculum, helping us create the most realistic and relevant training possible. These lessons aim to answer the questions students have in the air—before they even need to ask them—by bringing real-world scenarios and deeper understanding into every stage of training.
WHY IS IT NECESSARY?
It’s important for everyone to have a say in the curriculum because when people are involved in shaping what’s taught, they’re more invested in how it’s delivered. This buy-in creates a shared sense of responsibility and commitment to high-quality training. Instructors, students, and aircraft owners all bring unique perspectives that help make the curriculum more relevant, effective, and realistic. By involving everyone, we’re not just building a stronger program—we’re laying the foundation for a general aviation version of AQP, where scenario-based training, real-world decision-making, and continuous feedback become the standard, not the exception.
